Hacking Period: April 14 6:00 PM - April 15 11:59 PM

Preliminary Submission Due Time: April 14 11:59 PM 

Final Submission Due Time: April 15 11:59 AM

Finalists Announced: April 15 1:30 PM

Finalist Presentations: April 15 1:30-3:30 PM

Winners Announced: April 15 3:30 PM

 

2. ELIGIBILITY

A. Finnovation IS open to:
  • College students from CMU/Pitt
  • Teams of 3-8 of eligible individuals

An individual can only join one team. If participants signed up as individuals, they will be randomly assigned to an existing group with available spots. If groups that are signed up do not meet the minimum number of members needed, the gap will be filled by individual participants.

If a team is entering the competition, they must appoint and authorize one member to represent, act, and enter a Submission, on their behalf. The representative must meet the eligibility requirements above. By entering a Submission on the Site on behalf of a team, you represent and warrant that you are the representative authorized to act on behalf of your team.

B. Finnovation IS NOT open to:
  • Individuals who are residents of a country, state, province or territory where the laws of the United States or local law prohibits participating or receiving a prize in the Hackathon (including, but not limited to, Brazil, Quebec, Italy, and Cuba, Sudan, Iran, North Korea, Syria and any other country designated by the United States Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control)
  • Individuals involved in the judging process

 

3. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Teams must do the following to be considered a participant in Finnovation:

  • Register for the Hackathon on the Hackathon Website by clicking the “Register for this Challenge” button. To complete registration, sign up to create a ChallengePost account, or log in with an existing ChallengePost account. There is no charge for creating a ChallengePost account. This will enable you receive important updates and access the “Enter a Submission” page.
  • Create a video that includes footage that clearly explains your idea's features and functionality through a comprehensive demonstration.
  • Complete and enter all of the required fields on the “Enter a Submission” page of the Hackathon Website (each a “Submission”) during the Hackathon Submission Period, and follow the requirements below.

Submissions can be one of two options:

  • Application
  • Business Plan

A. Application Requirements

(i) What to Create: Teams can come up with a software application or website that can help teach financial literacy. 

(ii) Deliverables: Teams must have created at least some sort of prototype, showcasing the UI of the different features that the app will have. Bonus points for completely coding the application and having it run consistently for the platform w/ which it was intended. However, only a prototype is required in our competition. 

B. Business Plan

(i) What to Create: Teams can come up with a business plan for an organization or company whose functionality is to
